Mummy MOT

A specialist postnatal assessment designed to help you understand your body and recover with confidence

Having a baby is one of the most profound experiences a woman can go through, yet once the baby arrives, the focus often shifts away from her recovery and onto the baby.

Many women tell me they feel as though they no longer matter. Everyone asks how the baby is doing, but fewer people ask how they are coping physically, emotionally and mentally.

Pregnancy, birth and early motherhood bring enormous changes to the body. While some recovery challenges are common, many women are left wondering what is normal, what isn’t, and whether the symptoms they are experiencing will ever improve.

A Mummy MOT® provides the opportunity to focus on you.

Mummy MOT

What is a Mummy MOT®?

A Mummy MOT® is a specialist postnatal assessment designed to evaluate your recovery following pregnancy and birth.

Whether you are six weeks, six months or several years postnatal, the assessment helps identify factors that may be contributing to symptoms and provides personalised advice and recommendations to support your recovery.

You may benefit from a Mummy MOT® if you are experiencing:

  • Pelvic floor symptoms such as leaking, urgency or heaviness
  • Abdominal separation (diastasis recti)
  • Core weakness
  • Back, pelvic or hip pain
  • Discomfort during exercise
  • Concerns about returning to activity
  • Uncertainty about what is normal after birth

Alongside the standard Mummy MOT® assessment, I bring over 20 years of physiotherapy experience and additional training in Visceral Manipulation, scar therapy and Somatic Experiencing.

This allows me to take a broader view of postnatal recovery.

As well as assessing your abdominal wall, pelvic floor and movement patterns, I can also perform a visceral assessment to consider how pregnancy and birth may have affected the position and mobility of the abdominal and pelvic organs. Restrictions within these tissues can sometimes contribute to ongoing symptoms and may be an important part of the recovery process.

My training in Somatic Experiencing also allows me to recognise when a woman’s nervous system may still be responding to a difficult or overwhelming birth experience. Pregnancy, birth and motherhood affect more than the body alone, and understanding the bigger picture often helps recovery make more sense.

For some women, a Mummy MOT® provides reassurance, education and a clear plan for moving forward.

Others benefit from ongoing support to address more persistent symptoms and recovery challenges.

The assessment is not about finding problems. It is about helping you better understand your body, feel confident in your recovery and know what steps are most appropriate for you.

My goal is simple: to help you feel seen, listened to and supported.

Many women leave their Mummy MOT® feeling relieved to finally have the opportunity to talk about their own recovery, gain clarity about what is happening in their body and understand what support may help them move forward.

Book online or arrange a free 10-minute consultation if you would like to discuss whether a Mummy MOT® is right for you.
