Postnatal recovery

Helping you feel stronger, more confident and more like yourself again

Pregnancy and birth bring extraordinary changes to the body.

While many of these changes are a normal part of becoming a mother, recovery is not always straightforward. Yet many women receive very little guidance about what to expect after birth or how to support their recovery in the weeks, months and years that follow.

Perhaps you’ve been told everything is normal, but you still don’t feel quite right.

You may be experiencing:

  • Weakness through your tummy or core
  • Pelvic floor symptoms such as leaking, urgency or heaviness
  • Back, pelvic or hip pain
  • Abdominal separation (diastasis recti)
  • Difficulty returning to exercise
  • Ongoing discomfort following birth
  • A feeling that your body doesn’t move or function as it once did
  • Uncertainty about what is normal and what isn’t

If so, you’re not alone.

Postnatal recovery

Recovery is about more than healing

The female body is remarkable.

Throughout pregnancy it adapts to support and nourish a growing baby, making space for new life while preparing for birth and motherhood.

After birth, your body begins another period of adaptation and recovery.

For some women this process happens smoothly. For others, symptoms can persist long after the six-week check has passed. Changes to the abdominal wall, pelvic floor, breathing patterns, posture, movement and nervous system can all influence how you feel and function.

Every woman’s recovery is unique, which is why a personalised approach is so important

My role is to help you understand what is happening in your body and support your recovery with confidence.

As a Chartered Physiotherapist with over 20 years of clinical experience, I combine physiotherapy with advanced training in Visceral Manipulation, scar therapy and Somatic Experiencing to provide a more complete understanding of postnatal recovery.

Depending on your needs, treatment may include:

  • Assessment of abdominal and core function
  • Diastasis recti assessment
  • Pelvic floor assessment and advice
  • Movement and exercise rehabilitation
  • Scar assessment and treatment
  • Visceral assessment where appropriate
  • Hands-on treatment
  • Guidance for returning to exercise and daily activities

Some women need reassurance, advice and a clear plan. Others benefit from ongoing treatment and support to address more persistent symptoms.

Recovery after birth is not simply about getting back to where you were before.

It is about helping you feel comfortable, capable and confident in your body as it is now.

Whether you gave birth six weeks ago or several years ago, it is never too late to seek support.

Many women leave feeling relieved to better understand what their body has been trying to tell them and reassured that there is a way forward.
